SELF-EMPLOYED
If you are self-employed and struggling to pay debts such as taxes, TPS and TVQ, loans, credit cards, electricity bills, or rent, you (just like salaried workers) can make a consumer proposal to your creditors! This solution significantly reduces the total amount of your debts, allowing you to make only a reduced monthly payment for 5 years, without interest.
CONSUMER PROPOSAL
Your debts are consolidated and reduced, and you make a monthly payment based on your budget for a maximum period of 5 years. Interest stops, and you can keep your assets (house, car, RRSP). This can include credit cards, overdrafts, personal loans, TPS TVQ taxes, student loans, unemployment debts, Hydro-Québec, overdue rent, old bills, etc.
BANKRUPTCY
Bankruptcy is sometimes the only viable solution to resolve financial problems and restore a better quality of life. It’s not an easy decision to make, but there are advantages to filing for bankruptcy: it halts wage garnishment and bank account seizures, as well as collection agency calls and legal proceedings.
For a first bankruptcy with no surplus income, you will be released after 9 months.
